Council has in place a Neighbourhood Plan. This is a formal document, approved by local referendum, which is used by Borough planners to inform their decisions on Planning Applications. It is part of the raft of such policies they use, including the National Planning Policy Framework and The Local Borough Plan.

It was one of the first plans to be adopted in the Borough, and, similarly, was the first to be revised to take into account changing circumstances and the monitoring of its effectiveness.

As a result of having an active plan, Council receives 25% of the CIL money developers must pay, rather than the standard 15%. As Brancaster has had a lot of development in recent years, this has produced a considerable sum – this can be spent on a range of infrastructure projects.
