Parking in Brancaster
Parking in the Parish has been a long-standing issue.
Council was pursuing two threads, the provision of extra car parks for peak periods, and ways of better controlling the on-street parking in the Villages. The former, unfortunately, did not prove possible – see below.
Work continues on the process to get Traffic Regulation Orders in place that were to combine single and double yellow lines with some resident parking. This should alleviate some of the blockages that have occurred causing issues for residents, emergency vehicles and public transport. This follows extensive public consultation, and is now with Norfolk County Council who are preparing for the final, formal, presentation.
We await (July 2024) a start date for this process, and more information will appear on the Highways page as we receive it – Highways Page
Car Parks
As noted above, Council had for several years sought to provide two additional car parks, to supplement provision at the Beach. This did not prove possible, and therefore the only permanent provision remains the Beach Car Park – information on this and how to apply for resident permits etc is available under the “Services” tab.
Public Statement on the subject:
At a formal meeting on 23rd January 2023, held in public at Brancaster Staithe/Deepdale Village Hall, Council considered the latest position regarding the long-discussed car parks. It voted 7-0, with one abstention, not to pursue the licences for the car parks at Cherry Field in Brancaster and Cockmartin Field in Brancaster Staithe. Licences had previously been voted on, agreed and signed at the December Parish Council meeting for a two year period but the agreement was subsequently rejected by the Borthwick family, owners of the land.
Council will continue to work with NCC and the Brancaster Parking and Safety Team on other measures to help with the traffic issues in the villages and greatly values all the volunteer work that the community is doing at this time.
