In the event of an emergency always call 999 in the first instance. Make sure that you and all nearby people are safe, and try and prevent people congregating.

If possible, and if it can be done safely, ask someone to stand where they can clearly be seen by the Emergency Services to help direct them to the site.

In all circumstances take careful note of the advice of the Emergency Services, and avoid getting in the way.

If you are attending someone who is in need of medical help, the 999 responders will advise you on the location, codes and use of defibrillators if appropriate. Do not leave the injured person alone.

Council has no ability to act as a first responder – dial 999.

However, there is a role for local knowledge, particularly in the event of a major incident.

Plans are progressing for a local Team who can help support the Emergency Services as required, and provide assistance to those affected. These will be advertised on the News tab, and on Facebook.

Brancaster Staithe Fire – 19/7/2022

During the period of very hot weather in July 2022, there was a major fire affecting the centre of the Village. Several houses were lost, including the Freebridge housing, fortunately unoccupied, near the Village Hall. The latter was also affected.

Following this there was a public meeting on 7/10/22 to look at possible responses, and to hear from the Fire and Rescue Service. There was also a fund-raising effort on the internet which raised several thousand pounds, distributed to individuals, groups and the emergency responders and their support teams.

One of the things that became clear was that there was a problem with availability of water for the fire hoses – Council has purchased a connector allowing them to be linked to the local farm water supplies. This will be made available via the Emergency Team.
